Frogmore

Location

Nestled in Colney Street between St Albans and Radlett, Frogmore Fisheries is one of Verulam Angling Club’s most popular venues. The lakes sit on the former Handley Page aerodrome site, once famous for aircraft such as the Victor Bomber and Jetstream.

Overview

Verulam Angling Club has managed Frogmore since the late 1950s, transforming former gravel workings into a thriving coarse fishery. Following refurbishment in the early 1990s, the venue has developed into two distinct lakes, each offering a different style of fishing.

Ash’s Lake

Ash’s Lake is a feature-rich water with reed-lined margins, islands and varied depths that hold fish throughout the year. It’s an excellent venue for anglers looking for mixed catches and regularly produces impressive nets.

Tench
Crucian Carp
Perch

Pellets, corn, meat and maggots all fish well, while surface tactics can be highly effective for carp during warmer weather.

Tony’s Lake

Tony’s Lake offers a very different challenge. Clearer water and heavy weed growth make it an ideal tench venue, with anglers often clearing small patches of weed to create productive swims.

The lake provides excellent sport throughout the year, with quality silver fish and beautiful true Crucians.

Facilities

Frogmore is maintained by a dedicated team of Fishery Officers to ensure the venue remains in excellent condition. Toilet facilities are available on site and cleaned regularly.
