As seen in Anglers Mail

Not for the first time Verulam AC has featured in the media. This time the cameras and reporter were up at Marford Farm, our wonderful stretch of the upper River Lea at Wheathamstead.

As seen in the Anglers Mail dated 15 January, member Joe Royffe got permission from the club to run a feature on one of our most popular waters. In the three-page article he describes the tackle, tactics and baits used to net, on the day, over 20 chub to 4lb plus some roach and perch. On this occasion no barbel.
In the article, he describes watching countless chub intercept his loose-fed maggots with flashes of barbel beneath the chub, taking the position of the gravels.
And, dashing in amongst the chub, one of Marford's spectacular 2lb+ roach. These are the wisest of fish at this venue but even they will make a mistake occasionally and have been landed to 3lb.

As VAC members fully know, whilst it's the many barbel, to around 12lb, that see this fishery busy throughout the season, it also holds perch over 4lb, dace to 1lb (see below), monster gudgeon, hard-fighting carp to double figures and at least one tench, a fish of around 2.08 that sees the bank a few times each year, often much the to surprise of the lucky angler.

VAC Forum: Due to current low levels of use and some issues with the current version of software used it has been agreed to close the forum before April. Instead, members are invited to make use of our FaceBook page which can be found here.
Fishery Updates

Unfortunately Troy Lake, Denham has suffered what's believed to be a total fish kill; a result of de-oxygenation from an algae bloom. The VAC GC are reviewing options for the future. Things have also been tough at Turnford with Railway Pit being closed due to low water levels. If we get good rainfall this autumn it will be reopened.

However, at our associated waters such as Alban lakes and Timberlands the fishing has improved considerably after difficulties in 2017. Later this year the club is aiming to circulate a web based survey to members to determine which waters are perhaps not used as much as we might think and, for example, where any current restrictions might be a factor.

Half-Season Membership
This popular option, with subs at half price and tickets valid until June 15 2019, will be available from 1st November.

Work Parties

It is a requirement that all able-bodied senior members undertake at least one working party per year. This needs to be completed before end April 2019 to avoid a 40 levey on next season's membership fee.

Details of forthcoming work parties are circulated via eNews so members need to ensure that they are receiving these regularly. Before contacting the webmaster please check all spam/junk folders and ensure that we have your current email address recorded correctly. See below....
