Match Write-up: by Allan Bayman

We had a reasonable turn out for this match. After our last visit we raised some concerns about the state of the platforms with the fishery who assured us the platforms had been repaired so we booked. Therefore it was very disappointing to find some were still a bit iffy, bordering on dangerous.

Generally the far side which has more trees is the best and the area not to draw is peg 2 and 8-10. Poor Brian got peg 2 and I was in peg 8. A carp angler had been doing an overnighter and was packing up from peg 22 which Neil Anderson drew and Stan was on peg 20 both on the preferred wood bank. Andy Trigg was on previous winner 19

Neil caught well from the off, using the method tight to the point of the island and Stan was catching well too. My first half of the match was OK with a few reasonable carp but the second half was poor as the fish became spooky and I had to fish tighter to a very snaggy tree to get much action.

Stan was still catching well, chopping and changing from his margin to his 5m line, and Steve Burfoot was also picking off a few carp as was Martin Funnell.

Peg 2 was proving abysmal for poor Brian and a lot of people were struggling as the low water seemed to make the fish very spooky and unwilling to settle. The last hour saw Stan catching well and it looked to be between him and Neil but Neilís early flying start looked to have given him a buffer.

The scales backed this up and Neil had a solid 84lb 7oz, Stan 67lb 5oz and I was just a carp ahead of Steve Burfoot with 56lb 2oz to his 53lb 8oz.

Elsewhere there we a number of sub 20lb nets and 2 good anglers didnít weigh in and Brian Lakin had just 13lb showing how badly the venue fished.

Letís hope it is better next time. Please let me know if you had a dodgy platform so I can raise this with the fishery.

The Championship sees Colin retain his lead but another good result from Stan puts him in contention.
