Date        : 22nd June 2017

Venue      : Frogmore

Match      : Evening League #2

Match Write-up: by Allan Bayman

Frogmore had been fishing well with 50-60lb needed to win the weekday matches. So hopes were high for a good, even match. With good numbers booked on we had to include a few weaker pegs.

Did I detect a tear in the eye of Barrie Cowley with his beloved peg 23 gone to previous match winner Andy Zneimer , especially when he drew 22. Alan Thomas was on record holding peg 27, Stan on 4 with Neil opposite him on 28. Peg 19, in the bowl, was taken by Dave McGrath. I drew peg 3 and expected a fairly mediocre 3 hours.

Fairly early on Stan, Neil and Alan Thomas all looked to be picking up the odd carp of various sizes. A few carp were showing for most people but not too many bream.

Barrie Cowley nabbed a couple of carp shallow then a switch to paste saw him adding some nice carp to his net. Next to him Andy Zneimer was catching on the feeder again with the bigger fish from his margin.

The top end near the car park was proving as abysmal as I feared with no evidence of carp and the long line infested with small roach and the inside line producing very little and even bites on maggot were few and far between.

As the match progresses Stan turned on the pressure with a run of fish long on paste then some down the edge. Neil opposite him was catching well to and Alan T was getting the odd fish.

Barrie and Andy seemed to be heading the same way. Would Barrie and his bigger paste fish prevail ? Andy was getting more fish but generally smaller.

The whistle came to provide much needed relief for those at the car park end. Neil Anderson was playing a big fish that would make a big difference.

Stan was first up with a solid 29lb 11oz of mainly small carp. Dan on 13 had 17lb 3oz a couple of roach behind Chris Smith on 18 with 17lb 11oz. Dave McGrath on 19 cracked the 20lb mark with 21lb 9oz. Next up was Barrie Cowley who had found some nice sized fish on peg 22 to weigh 34lb 4oz. Andy was up next and as soon as it went on the scales it looked incredibly close. As it settled it read 34lb 3oz.. just 1 ounce shy from making it two wins in a row for the new boy ! Neil Andersons last gasp fish of over 8lb made a big difference with a 28lb 9oz total getting him in the money.

Andy retains his lead in the league but with four matches left it could all change. Stan moves into second. We are back at Riverside next week so book on ASAP if you want to fish.
