Match      : Evening League #6

Match Write-up: by Stan Kiddle

Our last match of this very successful series was attended by 16 hopefuls and, with recent rain, the fishery looked in great shape. However, the results would prove that something - temp drops, air pressure, who knows; had put the fish off as results didn't match expectation.

With myself leading the league 2nd place Andy Z needed to score 4th or better and above me to win overall. His draw, peg 11, was ideal for his method approach and so it proved on the night. Using pink pop-ups with 2mm pellet feed  he netted eight or so carp plus some nice bream to win by a good margin. With his other top 3 scores being 1, 2 & 4 he ended on 380 points ahead of my 370.

I was on peg 9, not a great one especially on sunny evenings as it's in your eyes if you fish close to the 3rd island. And as that was the only place I could get a bite that's what I had to do when the clouds came over, just trying the open water and margins when the blinding sun gave no other choice. With small fish whittling my soft pellet off the hook at 14.5m I swapped to 6mm & 8mm meat and this proved the right choice for small carp and a few big skimmers.

Elsewhere around the lake, good anglers on good pegs scratched their heads as to why they couldn't get a run of fish. Let's hope it improves for the Championship Match on Sunday 23rd.
