Write-up by Allan Bayman

The view from Stan's peg

to this....in just a few hours. The vast majority of carp were shoaled in the centre, in front of Colin and Steve on the right.

After a great turnout for our last match it was disappointing to see members not supporting this match especially when the café had agreed to open early for us. We had a number of drop-outs which we understand happens and thanks for letting us know in advance. We had a no-show with no call which is not on. You MUST ring or one of the committee members if you cannot attend. Repeat offenders will be dangled in Riverside Road for the crays to nibble at ;-)

The match itself was .. interesting. Stan loudly proclaimed at the draw there would be no snow. So when the snow came hammering down and settling it certainly made things much harder. (it was sleet- SK)

Icy cold water saw the fish very lethargic and the entrance bank was the place to be with a number of carp showing on that side compared to the grassy bank where it was three carp between four people. All a bit different from the summer when they climb up onto the bank to steal your bait.

Colin Rennison looked in pole position getting carp on popped-up bread. Steve Burfoot on the next peg was just one fish behind. Only 3oz behind though was Chris Stride fishing corn on the tip. Poor Stan, sandwiched in the middle of the carp-catchers - his two carp came off and only a few roach on a single maggot saved him from a blank.

Apart from that it was fairly grim. There might have been the possibility of some good weights of silvers but it was so cold and windy that holding the long pole was not only tricky but quite painful on cold wet hands. And to think that the day before, in persistent rain, a club match was won with 80lb+ and most had 20lb or more.

Colin only needed a single point to take the championship so takes it in style with a maximum 100 points. Can't think why we didn't help him celebrate his win with a customary dip in the lake :)
