Write Up by Allan Bayman:

Entire  Farm, Arrans Lake is one of our longstanding popular fixtures. However since Iíve been a member weights have gone up and up and the fishery has now thinned out the stock making the fishing a bit more sensible but still prolific.

We had very strong demand initially but with a number of regulars away at White Acres and a few people away due to illness we had 16 in total. I suspect a few others didnít fish this as its not their thing.

With warm weather forecast at the start of the week I hoped it would be a nice day but it would be pretty grotty with wind and rain forecast. With everyone well spread out we hoped for a fairly even match. There were a couple of areas I didnít want to be in so of course drew a peg in one of the areas I didnít want. Brian and Andy Trigg were in noted good areas and Matt was in a previously winning peg but with water levels way down it was likely to be quite different. Clive was in peg 1 which is always a strong area and Clive knows his way around commercials so was going to be a contender today.

The first half of the match suggested the weights would be well down on previous years with nobody breaking 200lb.  I managed to locate a deeper hole in my peg and managed to catch shallow in burst but a lot of small fish. Nobody had run away with it so it was anyone's to play for in the second half. Unlike some other years this match was exactly 5hrs with a mid-way weigh-in, not 5-1/2 or 6 .

Clive seemed to slow down for the second half ( as it happens he had almost exactly the same) but I was able to pick up better sized fish but less of them compared to the first half. Matt Young was having a better second half but the addition of a 5th net near the end of the match killed his peg. Stan to my right was having some bad luck, managing to miss the net with a couple of energetic fish but everyone seem to suffer fish pulls where the damaged mouths meant the hookhold was non-existentant.

On the entrance bank there was a really good close tussle between Brian Lakin on 16, Andy Trigg on 15 and Simon George on 13. On the causeway bank Colin Rennison was streaking ahead in his section. Perhaps only having two pegs on the causeway helped, the rest were overgrown - it would seem there are less matches there this year.

Strangely, it was noticeable that at times the air temp would drop sharply and many people stopped catching for a while but this didnít last long and the fish soon came back.

As the final whistle went, it would definitely need the scales to work out who the top places would be (pretty obvious to me Allan that you had won it by a mile - Stan)

Clive had 300lb exactly for third on the day and next door I had just over 370lb for the win. Matt Youngís strong second half saw him break 300lb with 319lb 9oz and take second place. The chasing pack was very close behind with a few fish splitting the group with Colin Rennison 4th 274lb 14oz, Simon George 5th with 272lb 14oz, Brian Lakin 6th 264lb 1oz, Andy Trigg 7th 260lb 6oz and then Stan Kiddle on 257lb 13oz in 8th. Talk about close even fishing ! 16lb between 4th and 8th is just two or three better sized fish for each half. Overall the average of 203lb per angler was down significantly from a peak of 384lb in 2016.

Previous autumn averages

2013 - 181lb.    2014 - 252lb,    2015 - 214lb,   2016 - 384lb,    2017 - 239lb

Next match is rather more sedate as we are back on the match lake at Frogmore.
