As I write this it's early October and yet it's still 20c outside. After an amazing summer, albeit at times too hot and too dry, the leaves are starting to fall, colour is dropping out of the still waters and fish are becoming harder to locate and catch.

For the VAC it's been another challenging but, overall, successful, start to the new club year. Since the Spring the club has completed construction of a new clubhouse and coaching facility at Riverside Road, seen membership levels remain steady after a slight fall last year and at both Frogmore and Riverside multiple match records have tumbled.

At Smallford, Moor Mill and Lysander Fisheries, numerous specimen carp, bream and tench have been banked and, despite low levels, our River Lea venues continue to provide great chub and barbel sport along with quality, roach, dace and perch.
Additionally, back in July, we celebrated the official opening of the new club house with an Open Day. For a change the weather was good and good numbers of families paid us a visit ensuring that our angling coaches were busy.

Our Ouse and Ivel venues have also seen some improvements with a good number of specimens reported as well as Chinese whispers regarding some very special fish. Understandably, those who have put in the hours to crack these challenging natural venues like to keep things to themselves.

Fishery Updates
Unfortunately Troy Lake, Denham has suffered what's believed to be a total fish kill; a result of de-oxygenation from an algae bloom. The VAC GC are reviewing options for the future. Things have also been tough at Turnford with Railway Pit being closed due to low water levels. If we get good rainfall this autumn it will be reopened.

However, at our associated waters such as Alban lakes and Timberlands the fishing has improved considerably after difficulties in 2017. Later this year the club is aiming to circulate a web based survey to members to determine which waters are perhaps not used as much as we might think and, for example, where any current restrictions might be a factor.

Half-Season Membership
This popular option, with subs at half price and tickets valid until June 15 2019, will be available from 1st November.

Work Parties

It is a requirement that all able-bodied senior members undertake at least one working party per year. This needs to be completed before end April 2019 to avoid a 40 levey on next season's membership fee.

Details of forthcoming work parties are circulated via eNews so members need to ensure that they are receiving these regularly. Before contacting the webmaster please check all spam/junk folders and ensure that we have your current email address recorded correctly. See below....

Andy Watson had this beautiful mirror from Moor Mill's Island Lake

Josh Blavins annihilated the Riverside 5-hour match record with 132lb from peg 30 back in August.

Also a new record from Riverside was Martin Funnell's 64lb in 3 hours during the popular evening league series.

A reminder to let the relevant fishery manager know ASAP if you spot any cormorants on VAC waters. Numbers are on your club card.

Another pic 'borrowed' from the Moor Mill Facebook page. This mid twenties mirror was landed by Alan Day.
