Memberships for Season 16/17 now on sale

Let's Get Social

To many of us of a certain age social media remains a bit of a mystery. Websites and the like are fine but even with well over 2,000 members the VAC forum only sees around 300 regular users.

But we should also recognise that within the club's membership are communities who are happy to use mainstream social media to share their knowledge and success without being channelled through the constraints of the club's 'official voice'.

If you are a Facebook user you will find sites for our big-fish waters at Smallford and Moor Mill and search deeper on Google and other information can be found. We are even on Youtube although the trout anglers in the VAC get the prize for the best video, beating the small clips by Anglers Mail.

New waters for 2016 - Willows Lakes, London Colney
After many months of delicate negotiation the VAC have reached an agreement with the fisheries management at Willows Lakes. In simple terms paid-up VAC members receive a 5 discount on each of the available ticket prices. So, for example, a 7 single-rod day ticket can be purchased for 2. Tickets are purchased from self-service machines at the fishery entrance. Simply pay the correct amount minus 5 and be ready to show your VAC membership when required. Details and pictures to be added to our Fisheries pages shortly.

The VAC remains committed to expansion of it's angling portfolio. This can be through direct purchase, rental, consortium or by association. If you know of a possible great addition to our fisheries please contact the Secretary (link on left).

Match News

The VAC match section is just about ready for the new seasons' fixtures. We have a few new venues this year and many regular venues retained by popular demand.

Our first match of the season is at Riverside on 22nd May and Thursday evening series runs for six weeks from 16th June, alternating between Riverside and Frogmore. Sadly we have no canal venues this season due to the difficulties of competing with the challenges of bikes, boats, buggies and joggers.

Plus let's not forget the increasingly difficult parking. but we still have one river trip planned and a mix of silver-fish and carp commercials as well as our home waters. Why not look to join us next season? You will be made very welcome and there will be plenty of help and advice available if needed.

For all the details please take a look at the VAC match pages.

New pictures urgently needed !!

This issue I've selected a few of the best snaps from 2015. Back in June Steve Brooks bagged this 16lb barbel from the Ivel.

The carp at Marford keep growing. Richard Denny had this mirror at 16.10.

Another Lea carp was this 10lb Koi from Leasey Bridge for Barry Arthurs.

Our hard-working fisheries manager, Barry Killinger, put in an appearance at the first Riverside match of the Summer to win with almost 40lb.
