Home Water Happiness
Being centred on St Albans, the
quality of the fishing at our most local venues is paramount. Like any venues,
the fish can be difficult to tempt at times, resulting in the occasional moan
from members and worries for our fishery managers.
Therefore it's a pleasure to report that two of out most popular venues are
producing great results; both Riverside and Frogmore visitors are reporting
excellent catches of smaller 'match sized' carp with plenty of proper bream to
add variety. As well as pleasure catches, our match section have reported above
average weights with over 50lbs winning in five hours at Frogmore and over 30lbs
taking top spot in a three-hour evening sprint at Riverside.
Riverside has certainly put a smile on the face of one of
our younger members. The picture shows Samuel Flaum with one of six quality carp
to double figures landed one evening at the end of July. Dad Jason blanked !
|Our river venues continue to
prove their worth with plenty of big fish being reported from all our
venues. Perhaps cream of the crop is Darren Hale's monster 8.02 chub to
follow up on his big barbel last month. Both fish being landed at
Other fish reported, but without photos, include perch to 4lb from the
Ouse, roach to over 3lb from the upper Lea and numerous barbel to double
figures and chub to 5lb. No reports recently from our upper Ouse stretch
at Tingewick but with good flow it's bound to be giving up good
specimens if you can locate them.
Riverside Open Day a
Unlike the last couple of years when the heavens opened, this year's
event, held on July 6th, was bathed in glorious sunshine with temps in
the high twenties. In some respects this also cut potential visitor
numbers but we still recorded over 300 guests on the day with over 40
new memberships sold.
Amazingly, with all the noise and commotion, and with most of the bigger
carp and bream sunning themselves, a number of good fish were caught
plus plenty of small roach, perch and skimmers in some pegs. Well done
to Andy K who had a 12lb carp on a light pole rig and to the carp-corner
boys who managed to hook a number of carp around 5lb allowing passing
youngsters a chance to land and hold the fish.

This double-figure common looks a real beatuy.
Club Registrar Dave Holland landed this ghostie (same as the main picture) a few
days earlier on dog biscuit.
Also off the surface was this 11.07 mirror for Chris Moss, one of 13 in under
three hours recently.
Riverside again, this ghost common weighed 9.02 for John McCarthy
This is Alan Thomas with the biggest bream in Riverside (we think) at 5.08
