More Records Fall - Pt2

In the last edition the great leaps in venue records was the headline. Bigger bream, bigger barbel, bigger perch etc. were all being reported from waters fishable on a VAC ticket.

Now we are fully into summer (and the hottest since 1976) our 'home waters' such as Frogmore and Riverside Road have been fishing exceptionally well if recent match results can be considered a fair measure. Since June we have seen the Frogmore 5-hour record of 75lb rattled and both Riverside 3-hour and 5-hour records broken; now at 64.09 and 82.12. And these were not just one-offs as backing weights have been so high that 46lb+, once enough to eclipse the 5-hour record, doesn't even get in the frame.

Pictured is Lee Ripper with part of his 82lb Riverside 5-hour record.

As a large club we cater for numerous angling tastes and, understandably, not all like to fish match-style with long poles. Not a problem as in the right pegs you can catch carp and bream almost under your feet. Get out there now with plenty of pellet and fish meat, corn, maggot or paste for a great days' sport.

River news
Our river venues have been fishing well since the season started but zero rain-full is starting to make things difficult. On our Ouse waters some very big barbel have been reported along with good bags of dace and the occasional mega perch. On the Upper Lea the barbel and chub are being a little more cautious now but some excellent catches have been reported, best times being very early and very late.

Regular contributor Andy Zneimer (below) was very pleased with this chunky two-tone barbel from Leasey Bridge where simple double-maggot on float tackle accounted for several smaller samples plus some bonus tench.

Remarkable Photography
New member Allan Jackson has found himself easily distracted down at Moor Mill as the abundant insect life makes for great pictures. Here's just one of many he has shared recently on the Moor Mill VAC Facebook page. A Nikon d3400 with a Sigma 105 macro lens is his chosen weapon of choice.
